Defining Dream and Vision:

Dream - "A sequence of images, etc. passing through a sleeping person's mind" (Webster's Dictionary)
Vision - "A mental image" (Webster's Dictionary)
"In a dream, a vision of the night..." (Job 33:15)

You will note from this verse the close connection the Hebrews maintained between the dream and the vision. The words are used almost interchangeably.

Both dreams and visions involve the viewing of images on the screen within one's mind. Often we would think of a dream as the flow of these images while sleeping and a vision as the flow of these images while awake.

Daydreaming is MAN utilizing the visionary process. This is not encouraged, and may be what is referred to in Ecclesiastes 5:7. It is better to present the eyes of the heart to God and ask Him to fill them with a divine flow of dreams, visions and godly imaginations.

Some Scientific Observations Concerning Dreams

Sleep laboratories have proven that everyone dreams one to two hours each night during a certain period of sleep known as alpha level, which is light sleep. Every 90-minute cycle of sleep begins with alpha, then goes into deeper sleep which is called theta, and finally deepest sleep which is called delta.

At the close of the first 90-minute cycle each night, the individual returns to alpha level sleep, where he has a short, five-minute dream period. The next time he cycles up to alpha, he has a ten-minute dream period. The third time in alpha, the dream period is about 15 minutes, and so on. If one sleeps a full eight hours, the entire last hour is essentially spent in alpha level sleep. Thus, the average person sleeping for eight hours a night will dream about one to two hours of that time.

Alpha level sleep is where one has what is called Rapid Eye Movement (REM). Rapid Eye Movement is exactly what it sounds like: the eyes of the dreamer begin moving rapidly. He is actually watching the scenes in the dream, and thus his eyes are literally moving back and forth, observing the action. By observing the alpha level sleep when Rapid Eye Movement occurs, researchers in sleep laboratories have determined when a person is dreaming and how much time is spent dreaming in an average night.

They have discovered that if they awaken a person every time REM begins, preventing him from dreaming, after about three nights the individual will begin to show signs of having a nervous breakdown. Clearly dreams are an inner release mechanism which helps provide us with emotional balance and maintain our sanity. Dreams can be considered guardians of our mental and emotional well-being.

Seven Reasons We Should Listen to Our Dreams

God declared that He WOULD speak through dreams and visions in the Old Testament.

And He said, "Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream" (Num. 12:6).

God declared that He DID speak through dreams and visions in the Old Testament.

"I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets" (Hos. 12:10).

God declares that He WILL communicate through dreams and visions in the New Testament.

"And it shall come to pass in the last days," saith God, "I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams" (Acts 2:17).

God declares that He WILL COUNSEL us at night through our dreams.

I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; Indeed, my mind (inner man) instructs me in the night (Ps. 16:7 NASB).

Rather than our dreams being fatalistic, dreams are calling us to change SO WE WILL NOT PERISH.

For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then He openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, That He may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword (Job 33:14-18, emphasis mine).

God does very significant things WITHIN dreams. For example, He established the Abrahamic Covenant in a dream.

And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him....And God said to Abram....In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying... (Gen. 15:12,13,18, emphasis mine).

God grants supernatural gifts THROUGH dreams.

In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, "Ask what I shall give thee...."

"Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this Thy so great a people?"

"...Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee...." And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream (I Kings 3:5,9,12,15).

The Divine Presence in Dreams

Bob Hoss, author Dream Language

Just as the imagery in dreams can originate out of various states of consciousness, theappearance of angelic or divine beings in dreams can have many origins. At one extreme, divine beings can appear as part of a true vision or higher state of consciousness achievedin the dream state. At the other extreme the divine being may simply be a metaphor orrepresentation of the dreamer’s association with the concept of the divine. Often, thedivine being appears as a representation of what Jung3 referred to as the Self, that withinour collective unconscious which contains the higher order pattern all we can become, our model of wholeness and connectedness to the universe.

The Divine as a Visionary Presence

“I had been asleep and am not sure if I woke or was still half asleep when I looked at theend of the bed and there stood a glorious angel. He spoke to me but not in words andtold me that it was all right, it was not my time yet”. That dream occurred to a womanwho had been hospitalized for a miscarriage that had gone very badly and the doctors hadnot expected her to live. She was very concerned that she would have to leave her othertwo children. After the vision she became calm and recovered more quickly than expected.

Throughout the ages there have been many reports of dreams of a visionary nature thatprovide guidance, comfort or "truth" from what appears to be a divine presence.Visionary dreams of a divine nature can be so striking that they change a person’s life, orthe course of history (as evidenced from biblical history). Big visions are not justreserved for the holy masters. The following dream series1 occurred to a house wife whowas simply searching for truth. “I was being shown a huge brightly lit triangular-shapedsign with lettering in red which said, ‘Make yourself a perfect channel and wait, and allthings will be given to you’.” Her wait was not long. Shortly thereafter she had thefollowing dream, seemingly explaining the divine order of things: “I saw a wheel of fire– a strange wheel endlessly turning. Fire - yet not fire - not material fire; electricalforces like the fire seen through closed eyes. The wheel was the Wheel of Time, andhovering above it were souls of all things created; animal, vegetable and man. Much likea computer, programmed to accept each one in its time, each one descended onto theearth only when an opening appeared in the wheel. The vibrations at the opening wereattuned to the vibrations of that particular soul. The return from earth happened in asimilar manner. Only when the proper opening appeared and the vibrations were rightcould the soul return from whence it came. There were some who wandered or floatedbeneath the wheel, unable to return through the fire until the proper opening appeared. And I saw the wheel from above, without wonder, as something I had seen before andrecognized.”

Often an angelic or divine presence will appear in dreams as a person goes throughspiritual transformation or transcendence. Nigel Hamilton2, researched dreams of twenty persons who went through the process of what he called psycho-spiritual transformation, nineteen of them on spiritual retreats. He observed a dramatic appearance of light, colorand visionary imagery in the dreams at the point of transcendence including divine beingsand what he called “clear light” (similar to the divine light that is reported from visionaryor near death experiences).

Divine Presence as a Metaphor

Most imagery in dreams are visual representations of concepts, emotions and thoughtsthat are being processed by the sleeping brain. These visual images are presented asmetaphors or associations and in some cases represent the appearance of a naturalbalancing force from the collective Self. Carl Jung3 stated that dreams act on a naturaltendency towards balance or wholeness, and generally employ ‘compensation’ as themeans to achieve this. Compensation attempts to restore balance by reversing or alteringmisconceptio ns that leaves the dreamer stuck in inappropriate behavior patterns. Thecompensating message is often delivered by a seemingly divine presence or in the formof a surprise or surprising imagery. This is the case in the following dream1: “I dreamedthat it was the end of the world and Christ was coming in the sky (to my right) in the formof the Holy Trinity. But Christ appeared as a trinity of Santa Clauses, who merged asone and began pouring gifts of love from an urn. They were invisible, but I felt the giftshit me, so I ran. I tripped, falling down the mountain, with the gifts pouring on me thewhole time.” The dream was indeed related to the dreamer’s spiritual life, but there wasan interesting clue in the dream; a “Santa Claus” Christ is not exactly what one mightconsider a divine presence! The Santa Claus Christ was a down-to-earth metaphorintended to illustrate the dreamers misconceived view of what Christ was all about. Thedreamer had an expectation that living a good spiritual life should bring the gift ofphysical rewards. The dream was compensating for a misconception that, if she were agood girl, God would bring her physical gifts. The dream showed the true gifts to beinvisible and intangible gifts of love. Indeed the message was a spiritual one, but thevision of Christ was a metaphor.

Divine Presence as a symbol of the higher SELFPerhaps the most frequent appearance of divine beings in dreams are what Carl Jungcalled archetypes.4 Archetypes are patterns from within the collective unconscious thatguide the human psyche toward a state of wholeness. He indicated that who we are asindividuals evolves out of the collective unconscious in cycles of transformation, underthe influence of an organizing force he called the Self. He observed that dreams not onlyreflect this process but act on a natural tendency towards balance or wholeness in order tohelp bring it about. Jung related human transformation to a symbolic death and rebirth, adeath of the existing ego state in order for the new self to emerge or be born.4 As you canwell imagine, such a death/rebirth cycle would be filled with imagery of a divine spiritualnature.

This process begins when our ego is faced with abandoning some view of self, belief ormyth that it is holding on to, that no longer works. The dream may reflect theabandonment of the old ego as death, fear of death, a loss, being trapped, impendingstorms, moving into darkness or darkening and descending. Symbolic death is followedby a period of searching for a new self, which can appear as a journey, a search, beinglost, underground, or winter. We turn inward to face our shadow self, encounter elementsof our instinctual nature, and experience encounters and conflict between opposing sidesof self. At some point the natural balancing forces within the psyche appear in order tore-integrate the fragmented self in a way that is more consistent with a higher order senseof Self. The eventual transcendence (integration and acceptance of new parts of self) isaccompanied by imagery of release, emergence, celebration and joy. Increases in natureimagery, beauty, light and color are experienced.

The divine presence would typically appear in the form of what Jung referred to as theAnima or Animus, or symbol of the Self. They often reveal themselves as the divinewise old male or female character or angelic beings, the divine child wise beyond theirage, the divine masculine or feminine presence or simply the voice or words from aseemingly divine source.4 They typically provide a guiding role in dreams.

Such a guiding presence was experienced in the following dream1 : “I was wandering allover town looking for the book of truth. No one could tell me where it was. Suddenly Isaw a divine male presence sitting on the left, who pointed down a descending woodenspiral staircase. He said that truth lies down there. I descended the spiral staircase andfound myself in an underground mall, where I proceeded to continue to go from store tostore looking for the book. I looked to my left and there was another set of stairsdescending from above and on it was a beautiful glowing angelic female. She pointed toa pedestal in front of her which had a golden book on top of it and gave me a knowingglance. I suddenly understood, the book of truth is within myself - not out there in a booksomewhere to be purchased.”

The visionary experience of the angel at the end of the bed, discussed earlier, came at atime of critical physical illness. It seems that guidance from angelic characters in dreamscan appear at times of lesser physical problems as well. The following dream was thesecond of two dreams that provided direct literal messages, seemingly to demandattention to the dietary needs of a man who made a radical change to a vegetarian diet1 :“I dreamed of a beautiful mystical woman, with a glow emanating from her, sitting on athrone like chair. I was attracted to her and approached her. She looked at me and said‘bring me tea’. After the first dream with the message ‘eat more fish’ I took this asanother dietary demand from my body trying to adjust to the new diet.”

One of the primary functions of the higher SELF is to bring about integration within thepsyche, between the conscious and unconscious. At the core of this is the integrationbetween the ego self and shadow. The shadow according to Jung is an unknown personof the same sex as the dreamer.4 The shadow is not always what it sounds like, a darkshadowy frightening character; as the ego moves closer to integration with the shadow itcan appear as something beautiful and divine. This is seen in the following dream: “As Iwent down the stairs, I saw on my left a large stone archway and a room beyond. On theleft side of this room was a young woman. As the sunlight streamed in she came forward, and I saw that she was me. She walked toward me and we blended into one person .”

Symbols of the SELF as Related to the Diving Presence in Dreams

When the divine presence in a dream originates from the SELF, it might be identified assuch by certain clues in the dream; patterns that are representative of integration. Jungstated that the symbols of the SELF come from within the collective unconscious. Basedon the observations of Jung4, confirmed with hundreds of dreams in my own research1,the dream elements of an unconscious origin typically appear in the left field of vision, behind or below in dreams, sometimes emerging from darkness. This is in contrast toconscious concepts which typically appear in the right field of vision, ahead or above, that are usually bathed in light. Hoss1 theorizes that there is also a biological basis forthis, having to do with the difference in processing between the left and right brainhemispheres.

Notice that in the visions or visionary dream examples above, the divine imageryappeared in front of the dreamer. The angel appeared at the end of the bed, the triangularsign was in front and above, and the wheel of fire was seen as above and then fromabove. In contrast to this, that the imagery in the dream examples that were related to theSELF, all appeared to the left of the dreamer. In the “book of truth” dream both thedivine male and female presence was to the left of the dreamer. In the dream where thewoman integrated with herself, the female figure she integrated with was also located onthe left. Note also that the metaphor of the “Santa Claus Christ” was seen as comingfrom above and to the right, as one might expect of a conscious construct.

Conclusion

The origin of angels or other divine entities in dreams or pseudo dream states, are oftendifficult to determine from their appearance alone. A case can be made for true visionsand visitations from the divine. A case can also be made for these divine entities beingsymbolic representations in the natural balancing and transformation process talkingplace in dreams. Perhaps the symbolic clues provided by Jung, in particular as they relateto archetypes of the unconscious, can help distinguish between a divine visitation fromwithout, versus the natural balancing forces of the inner SELF.

How to Cope with Nightmares And Unwanted Dreams part 1 of

How to Cope with NightmaresAnd Unwanted DreamsChristian help, peace, healing and encouragementwhen bad dreams disturb your sleepEvery Christian knows that in the Bible God spoke to many people through dreams, many of which needed divine interpretation. But what about nightmares, wet dreams, or downright sinful dreams? Can they be avoided? How does a Christian cope with them? What makes unwanted dreams particularly upsetting and frustrating is that we seem to have no control over them. Is there a way to regain control? Can unpleasant or even demonically inspired dreams be turned into something good? Can we not only be healed from the upsetting aspect of unpleasant dreams but actually be healed of deep hurts and find greater wholeness because of such dreams? Can dreams that tempt us end up making us spiritually stronger? Could nightmares turn out to be a precious blessing for which we will be forever grateful? These are some of the issues you and I will explore in this webpage.Where Do Upsetting Dreams Come From?If you have disturbing dreams, you are by no means alone. In fact, although they do not all warrant the term nightmare, unpleasant dreams are so common that many modern studies show that about three-fourths of dreams involve negative emotions. If you suffer from headaches, you want relief, not a webpage of facts about headaches. Likewise, if you suffer from unpleasant dreams, you want relief, so this webpage is highly practical and focuses on bringing the relief you crave. To treat headaches, however, it is critical to identify the exact source of the headaches. Treatment will vary greatly depending on whether the source of the headache is a brain tumor, eyestrain, a neck problem, or something. Likewise, to treat unpleasant dreams we must identify the source of those dreams.Note: While retaining confidentiality, I won’t hide anything relevant that I’ve come across in my many years of people unburdening themselves to me. I will trust your ability to seek God and discover from him whether anyone else’s experience is relevant to you, or whether it is as off the planet as it initially seems. If you are unable to hear directly from the One who knows everything because you don’t have a true relationship with God, please read What Your Fantasies Reveal immediately. From God?One Christian who claims to be an expert on dream interpretation insists that every single dream – no exceptions – is from God. Until I heard him say that, I had highly regarded this man’s spiritual discernment. Shocked by his emphatic claim, I thought much about it, but I cannot agree with his assessment. However, there was a time when I took a position on the opposite extreme. And I was wrong.I once used to naively assume that no dream that is upsetting, disturbing or frightening could be from God. I now confess that this presumption is so thoroughly unbiblical that I am staggered that I ever fell for it. If for spiritual understanding I could rely on what to me seems like common sense, God would have left us a much slimmer Bible. Human dependence upon biblical revelation is profound. As Proverbs 3:5-7 warns, it is critical that I not think myself smart and trust my own understanding. Here’s blatant biblical proof that divinely inspired dreams can be highly upsetting:Job 33:14-16 For God does speak – now one way, now another – though man may not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds, he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings (Emphasis mine.)We also read:Genesis 15:12-13 . . . Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. Then the LORD said to him . . . (Emphasis mine.)After Pharaoh’s dreams, “his mind was troubled” (Genesis 41:8). Likewise, after Nebuchadnezzar’s divinely inspired dreams, “his mind was troubled and he could not sleep (Daniel 2:1). He later had another God-given dream of which he wrote:Daniel 4:5 I had a dream that made me afraid. . . the images and visions that passed through my mind terrified me.Daniel had a similar experience:Daniel 7:1,7,15 . . . Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying on his bed. . . . in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was a fourth beast – terrifying and frightening and very powerful. . . . I, Daniel, was troubled in spirit, and the visions that passed through my mind disturbed me.Gideon overheard a pagan soldier describing a dream he had just had, which his fellow soldier correctly interpreted as meaning that their entire army would be crushed by Israel (Judges 7:13-15). Try telling me that wouldn’t be disturbing!A search for biblical dreams that disturbed the dreamer, however, takes us far beyond such obvious instances. In fact, it is hard to find in the Bible any divinely-given dream that did not have an upsetting element. For example, Mary’s husband was told in a dream that they had to completely disrupt their lives and move to Egypt. Moreover, he was told in the dream that people were seeking to kill his son. That revelation would hardly fill him with joy.If ever there were a positive dream, it was Joseph’s in the Old Testament in which he was told that his entire family would bow down to him, but even then the results were exceedingly disturbing. His dreams provoked a rebuke from his father and hatred in his brothers. As a direct result of those dreams he ended up kidnapped and sold into slavery (Genesis 37:5-28).So it is wrong to dismiss a dream as not being of God, solely on the basis that it disturbs us.A woman has kindly shared her experience to demonstrate how God could be in a nightmare:For months I had a recurring nightmare. Every night I would dream that I was walking down a very steep and slippery ramp through a pitch-dark passageway. I grabbed the ramp’s railing to steady myself but it was so wet and slippery that I couldn’t hold on. I was chilled to the bone and apprehensive and confused. Suddenly I could sense a presence behind me. I could see nothing, but I knew it was there. I was so terrified I could neither scream nor run. I cringed, expecting the worst. Then I was stabbed in the back. Amazingly, the stab never hurt, and there was never any blood. After suffering the dream over and over I finally begged God to take the dream away. It was then that he impressed upon my heart the surprising interpretation. At that time in my life I was participating in gossip, saying very hurtful things about someone behind her back (thus the backstabbing in my dream). However, since we prayed for this person after each gossip-fest, I felt I was doing no harm to her or me (hence no pain or blood in my dream).Upon the Lord revealing this, I immediately repented of my gossip, and the nightmare never returned.Another woman shares another example of what, on the surface, would hardly seem a dream from God:For years I was ashamed and horrified by recurring dreams in which I was abusing a baby almost to the point of death. In the dream I felt no pity for her; only fear that I would be caught. I suffered abuse as a child and would never act that way in real life. I raised three beautiful children without a thought remotely close to abuse. But the Lord showed me that I was the baby. That made perfect sense. I truly hated myself. As I continued with therapy (it was so wonderful to share things and have someone believe me!) my inner healing progressed, and the dreams slowly showed me having compassion and even love towards the baby in the dream. In the last of the dreams I had full compassion and love for the baby and no intent at all to harm her. I now haven’t had such a dream for at least nine months

Prophecy & Dream Interpretation Guide Part 1

Welcome to our new site! To the left are all the chapters
in our dream interpretation guide and within each chapter
are many pages. Our Site Map lists each chapter and
page to help you find what you are looking for.

Our mission is to help the church reestablish the broken
lines of communication between our Father and His
children. The world has been convinced by a cunning
enemy that dreams and visions are a by-product of last
night's pizza or that your dreams are manifestations of an
inner conflict from your childhood. Additionally, we have
bought into countless other theories designed to discredit
dreams thus effectively destroying a vital link in
communication between our Father and His children.

In wartime an enemy can gain a significant advantage in
battle by destroying communication between the ground
troops and their command center. It is no wonder that our
enemy has worked hard at convincing the world to ignore
their dreams and visions.

Our Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
He is the originator of communication through dreams and
visions and the bible tells us that He has always
communicated with the human race through dreams and
visions. Because He knows the end from the beginning
God knew that people in the end times (now) would have
a complete and utter disregard for dreams. Therefore, He
made His plan to continue communicating through dreams
clear when He prophesied that at the end times He would
pour out His spirit on ALL flesh and they would dream
dreams and see visions because He wants to talk directly
to each one of us. The entire reason for creating the
human race to begin with was communication and
fellowship with Him.

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith
God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your
sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young
men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream
dreams:

The book of Job says that the Lord would speak to us in
dreams and visions, even though man does not recognize
that it is God, to direct us, to warn us, and to preserve our
lives. If we are ignorant of God's plan to speak to us in
this way, we will be at a disadvantage when He does if we
are not paying attention.

Job 33:13-18

13 Why do you complain to him
that he answers none of man's words [a] ?
14 For God does speak—now one way,
now another— though man may not perceive it.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep
falls on men as they slumber in their beds,
16 he may speak in their ears and terrify them with
warnings,
17 to turn man from wrongdoing and keep him from pride,
18 to preserve his soul from the pit, his life from perishing
by the sword.

Our prayer is that through these pages you will gain an
understanding of the significance of the Lord's voice in
our dreams. Our passion is to help bring people into a
deeper fellowship with God, through hearing from Him
directly, as He designed us to hear from Him - in the night
season!.

Join us and be blessed by going deeper in Him. See the
manifestation of everything that He has planned for your
life as a result of learning to recognize His voice through
your dreams and visions.

Purpose & Place for Dreams Part 2

This page is especially created for those of use who
are the most enthusiastic about dream interpretation -
especially if your dreams foretell prophetic events.

When an individual first begins to experience
supernatural manifestations in their dreams, or when
they begin to experience supernatural gifts and
revelations from God, it is common and very easy to
get caught up in the awe inspiring elements involved
because they are, well, phenomenal. I created this
page because It is imperative that we remember that
no matter how accurate the manifestations of
revelations that we receive are, or no matter how
amazing the prophetic manifestations of foretelling
are, our pursuit is going deeper in our fellowship and
relationship with God. Our pursuit is not focusing on
the manifestations of the supernatural.

I am not saying loving the supernatural aspect of our
spiritual life in Christ is wrong what I am saying is don't
worship the supernatural, worship God. If all of your
focus is on your dreams and supernatural gifts then
your focus is in the wrong place. Our pursuit is not
chasing the supernatural gifts and abilities but the
Giver of those things. It is very easy to begin to
worship the gift instead of the Giver. If all your focus
and your attention is on your dreams, the
manifestations of your dreams, and/or the meanings
of your dreams and not focused on God, you may be
on thin ice.

The true purpose of our dreams and visions is to be
led of God, to hear from Him and respond to His
direction, and to bring us into a closer, more
interactive, fellowship with our Father - dreams are not
to lead us even farther away.

Imagine being in a new relationship and chatting via
email, instant message and even snail mail. Imagine
how your new love would feel if you went about your
life adoring his text messages and letters but paid him
absolutely no attention because all of your attention
was fixed on his messages to you. Something seems
startlingly wrong with that picture, doesn't it? But it is
amazing the number of people who do exactly that
when they begin to fully realize the supernatural fabric
that prophetic dreams are woven from. I am teaching
you this principle from experience.

When I first began to realize how amazingly God
moves in dreams and visions was when the prophetic
dreams He was giving me began to come to pass. I
saw so many amazing things that I was in literal shock
for a very long time. It was hard to get my feet back on
the ground and to function normally for a while
because of the things He was showing me.

When I first began to learn about Christian dream
interpretation I began to write down my dreams and
immediately I began to see things materialize in the
newspaper and at church: hurricanes, miracle baby
prophecies, and dozens of other things, and they all
materialized exactly as God had shown me that they
would. To function normally in the beginning was
almost impossible. With that said, I understand the
fascination and how easy it is to get caught up in the
novelty but I encourage you to work hard to avoid this
pitfall.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being grateful
for His communication and gifts to us but we must
diligently remember that is it Him speaking and it is
His communication to us versus seeing the prophetic
dreams as OUR supernatural dreams and visions.

The awe inspiring element of these incredible
manifestations is directly related to THE ONE who is
Everything Awe Inspiring. The messages are awe
inspiring because He is awe inspiring - they reflect
His Glory and Goodness.

In essence, consciously keep our Wonderful Lord and
Father first. Only then will you know the true riches of
the Kingdom of God.

Raindrops of Understanding Part 3

Although we live in a world of drive-thru and microwave mentality, God's way of doing things is far different than our way of doing things. I am sure I won't be the first to say, God is usually not early but He is never late. As much as it aggravates us to hear it, God does not rush. How does this apply to dream interpretation, you say? Many of us, when we have a dream, one that we just know came from God we expect it to be understood immediately.

Although it would be wonderful if God showed up in our dreams and spoke to us in crystal clarity so that we had instant understanding, such is usually not the case. The
bible tells us that often God chooses purposely to speak in dark sayings and riddles (Numbers 12) instead of speaking plainly and clearly.

Proverbs 25:2 says, it is the glory of God to conceal a matter and the glory of kings to seek out a matter.

The bible says: Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you, ask and ye shall receive. I can't find one single scripture that says, Don't bother looking, it will come easy to you.

The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl Matt13:44"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his
joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 45"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46When he found one of great value, he
went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

God wants us to desire something enough to seek it out. He wants us to desire communion with Him so much that we are willing to invest ourselves in it and to want it badly enough to sell everything we have to obtain it - like the pearl of great price that it is.

Dreams are an invitation from God to stop in and hear what He would say to us and that is why they are symbolic. He doesn't necessarily want to give us a message via email or
snail mail, one that we would quickly understand outside of His presence. He wants to talk to us. He wants to enjoy our presence. He loves us and wants to meet with us. Can you imagine your earthly father wanting to talk to you but you didn't have time? Instead you wanted him to just send you an email instead of stopping at his house to hear what he had to say. Symbolic dreams cause us to stop, to get quiet and to fellowship with God, to take time out to hear from Him.

When we take the time to seek God and His presence ther a in will start to all. Oftentimes I tell people who have come for dream interpretation that as we communicate God gives me the interpretation by way of raindrops. The interpretation just drops into my spirit one drop at a time.

Not coincidentally, the Hebrew word nataph can be translated “prophet", the definition of which is to drop, drip, or distill. Revelation raindrops are the revelation that we receive in God's presence, which drops into our spirit one drop at a time.

As we ponder and meditate on a dream, when we enter God's presence the meaning will
begin to come into focus, like the lens of a camera, until finally the complete picture comes into crystal clarity as God drops the revelation into our spirit one raindrop at a time. One of the main reasons for raindrops of understanding is that God is Spirit and those who come to him must come to Him in Spirit....when we are searching out the meaning to a spiritual dream, or meditating on a dream or vision, we step out of the carnal, worldly, mentality and we step into the mentality of the spirit. When we are drawing near to God in Spirit for understanding, we are drawing near to Him.

As we meditate on a dream, our mind is turned toward Him and His messages to us. When we are focused on the message our thoughts are not sifting through a thousand other things at the same time. When we mull over the elements of the dreams and the symbols it actually places us in a position to receive a message of revelation from God that we would not have stopped to listen and give our ear to if we did not receive the symbolic dream.

For this reason, it is very important that YOU learn to interpret your dreams and take the time to learn. God does not want to speak to you through an interpreter for the rest of your life. There may be times that an interpreter will be necessary but that is not the standard.

The standard is that God gives you message dreams because He wants to talk directly to YOU. Then, when you've received revelation go to an interpreter for CONFIRMATION.

He wants us to seek Him, not only for answers to our problems but for Him and His
presence. He loves us and wants to spend time with us. Sometimes, when we are seeking Him for answers it is often the only time we are spending any time seeking Him at all. This begs the question, if I spent more time with God just for God, would my communication from Him be clearer? Perhaps if we spend more time seeking His face the rain will fall a little bit faster.

Biblical Foundation for Receiving from God through Dreams and Visions Delete Topic|Reply to Topic

Why bother to seek an interpretation for your dreams?

Because God is speaking through them. Dreams are often our answers to
prayer, from God.

Many think prayer is a one-way conversation with God and this is the extent
of what we can expect from Him in our earthly relationships with Him. Many
expect that we have to wait until we get to heaven to have a real interactive
relationship with God. Since the day that I began seeking God through
dreams and visions one of the greatest blessings in my life is learning that
when we pray we can expect an answer back, in this lifetime, and even this
week.

Too often people have a mixed up idea of what prayer and hearing from God
truly is. I can remember a time in my life when I was taught, and I also
thought, that prayer was asking God for things. I actually felt as though I did
my religious duty for the day if I asked God for something. I may not have
been specifically taught that prayer was a one-way conversation with God but
I definitely assumed that it was.

On one particular day, in the middle of working at my desk, I can remember
asking God for something - taking approximately fifteen seconds to do it and
actually feeling as though I fulfilled my religious obligation for the day (or
even the month). Then, I went right back to working without giving it a
second thought.

I was abruptly interrupted not long afterward with one of the first very clear
messages from God to me. He said, "Are you going to serve me or do you
expect me to serve you?"

In that one question God captured the essence of what my perception of Him
was. I perceived prayer to be dropping off my laundry list of things that I
expected Him to answer and, admittedly, I viewed God as some Intergalactic
Dispenser of Prayer Requests. Although God does answer prayers for the
ignorant, as He did for me for many years - sometimes incredibly, this method
of treatment will not yield much in the pursuit of divine communication and
manifestation of the presence of God in your life.

While preparing to explain how God communicates to us through dreams and
vision the Lord showed me a vision of a scene from the movie Aladdin. In one
particular scene the genie is explaining how frustrated he is with being a
genie always at the beck and call of a rub of the lamp. He illustrates this by
popping up with a "POOF", and says, "What do you need" and then, repeats
this illustration several times, "POOF"....."What do you need", "POOF"..............
"What do you need."

God is saying that this is how people see Him and treat Him, as though He
were a genie in a bottle whom is only brought out when there is a need to be
met, expected to answer immediately, and then to return right back to the
bottle - but He really wants to hear from us and He wants for us to hear from
Him.

God does indeed bless the wicked and the righteous (and even the pure in
heart who are completely ignorant) because He is a good God (Mt 5).
Therefore, in spite of the fact that some people treat Him like a genie in the
bottle, He still answers their prayers simply because He is good. But if this is
the case in your life, you are missing out on a true, living, breathing,
relationship with the God of all Creation. God wants to talk to you. He wants
to answer the questions in your life and He is answering them, but are your
recognizing His voice when He speaks to you?

When we begin to seek God simply for Who He Is, and when we seek Him
with our whole heart - He responds. Unfortunately for many, they do not
recognize Him when He is speaking and so, they accuse Him of not answering
their prayers and the growth of a developing interactive relationship with Him
is halted.

Job 33:13 13 Why do you complain to him
that he answers none of man's words [NIV] ?
14"Indeed God speaks once, [NASB)]
Or twice, yet no one notices it.
15"In a dream, a vision of the night,
When sound sleep falls on men,
While they slumber in their beds,
16Then He opens the ears of men,
And seals their instruction,
17That He may turn man aside from his conduct,
And keep man from pride;
18He keeps back his soul from the pit,
And his life from passing over into Sheol.

As this paragraph of scripture states, the way that God responds to our
prayers is often through our dreams but we don't recognize it. We speak to
God in our carnal, human, language and He replies to us in His spiritual
language - through dreams and visions. We have not been taught this
profoundly important principle in scripture, a principle that is written as
plain as day: When man prays, God responds through dreams, and as a
result they don't recognize it.

God spoke to man through dreams and visions in almost every key bible
account: Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Solomon, Saul, Gideon, Laban, Pharaoh,
Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel, Joseph - Mary's husband, Pilot's wife, and Peter to
name few. Unfortunately, instead of recognizing that God speaking in this
fashion was common we have been taught that these are exceptional
situations. The reality was, and we get a glimpse of it in the story of Joseph,
that people expected to hear from God through dreams and visions and were
well versed in symbolism.

In the story of Joseph, we see that he tells his brothers and his father his
dreams. Neither his brothers nor his father spent any time wondering over
what the symbols were, they recognized the symbolism immediately and were
quite offended by what the dream suggested. Their keen perception of the
symbolism in Joseph's dream suggests they were very fluid in dream
interpretation. Jacob no doubt taught his children that God speaks through
dreams and visions and undoubtedly recounted the number of incredible
dreams in which God spoke to him, as a result they expected to hear from
God and paid close attention.

One could make the assumption that Jacob, Joseph, and Pharaoh were
special. Of course God would go out of His way to talk to them through their
dreams, but I'm not special so I don't expect it to happen. I believe the Lord
put the dreams of the baker and the butler in the bible to dispel any such
assumption. While the butler could also be considered significant since the
interpretation of his dream led Joseph to Pharaoh's court, the baker's dream
held no so such significance. There was virtually no value in giving him a
dream of the future, other than as a biblical example that no matter who the
individual was they expected to receive divine messages through their dreams
and visions, and they did.

The butcher and baker were everyday people given prophetic dreams of the
future, taking the messages seriously, and seeking an interpretation.
Biblically, people expected God to speak through dreams so the first thing
that they did with their dreams is to tell them, they sought an interpretation,
and then they acted on the interpretation.

How can we expect to communicate with God when we've been taught that
His primary means of communicating with us is not valid? We've been tricked
into believing that God definitely speaks He just isn't speaking to us yet....
because we aren't holy enough yet or we aren't good enough yet or maybe He
just doesn't talk to everybody. When the truth is, He has been talking to us
all of our lives. We just haven't recognized it. Think how effectively we've
been cut off from God because we have believed that dreams are not a valid
form of anything.

We've been taught by our society that the way God speaks to us, through
dreams - as the bible establishes, is not valid. We've been taught that our
dreams are rehashing the days events or various other lies meant to destroy
communication between God and His children. It is time that we wake up
and begin fellowship with the Lord like we were meant to be: Speaking to Him
and hearing Him speak back.

Who would benefit from convincing us that God is no longer speaking to us
through dreams and visions? Who would benefit from cutting off our
communication with God?

God's enemy has convinced us that we have never experienced God speaking
to us. God's enemy has convinced many of usof the following lies regarding
communication with God:

God only speaks in a voice you can clearly hear.
God sends an angel to become physically manifested when He wants to
speak with us.
God's voice is something we don't have the skill to discern.
We haven't reached that spiritual place where God will speak to us.
We aren't good enough.
God just isn't going to talk to us because He stopped communicating
with people when the bible was written, or when the last apostle died.

The truth is, God speaking to us is so common that our enemy has had to
convince us that His voice is not His voice (dreams and visions) to keep us
from the benefits of a relationship with Him.

How ridiculous is it to think that the God who created us for fellowship with
Him stopped interacting with us through dreams and visions, the way He has
always interacted with humans, and instead expects us to simply know Him
through the bible instead of through a real, interactive relationship with Him?

The world needs less religion and more of a relationship with God. We need
to have a REAL relationship with Him. One where we hear Him, speak to
Him, look to Him for guidance when we need it with full assurance that He is
truly going to answer us because He will and He wants to.

God has not stopped communicating through dreams and visions. The
manner in which He communicated in biblical times still applies today!
Dreams and visions occur in this day and age. God still communicates with us
through them, so it is important that we understand dreams and visions in
order to fully receive His messages.

Defence of Biblical Dream Interpretation

I have heard dream interpretation called a "fad", "flaky", and a host of other negative
comments which discredit the practice of dream interpretation, but because the Lord has done so much for me through dreams and visions, I am very passionate in its defense. It saddens me that so much of the body of Christ, and even those in leadership, are ignorant and ambivalent toward hearing from God through dreams and visions because the Lord delivered me from absolutely crippling fear, depression, and a host of other issues, through dreams and visions, and as a result I am an evangelist for Life in the Spirit.

My mission is to recruit the skeptics to live life in the supernatural world of Life in
the Spirit .

The most critical people of dream interpretation likely pray for God to send them a vision but these same people likely haven't the faith to hear from God through their dreams. God says if we are faithful in the little He will give us much. If a person doesn't have the faith to receive a dream from God, they shouldn't expect Him to send a vision or to show up in their bedroom, be cause dreams are the most common way for God to speak to man, followed by His actual manifest presence, then visions. Biblically speaking, God manifested His presence more times than He sent visions. Therefore, going by biblical history, it would be more likely for God to show up in person than to give a person a vision. If a person does not faithfully handle the dreams He is speaking through how can they expect Him to do something which would require even more faith?

Let's not be crazy, y'all

I believe that part of the reason that the traditional church shuns the supernatural is because of the tendency of people to easily become flaky. Although people can get fruity in things of the spirit, the tendency of those people to be fruity should not limit us from seeking God through dreams and visions. People who are flaky will continue to be flaky. People who are well-balanced will continue to be well-balanced. Therefore, if you have a heart for dream interpretation, as I do, it would behoove us to be well-balanced and circumspect in every area so that we can be evangelists for life in the spirit. We need to constantly be ambassadors for Christ and should always work toward using the examples of our lives to draw people deeper into the things of God instead of repelling them from the deeper things of Christ. If people can see that it is possible to be completely spirit led and flowing in the supernatural while all the while remaining sane, then they might be more likely to open their hearts to flowing in the supernatural life in the spirit themselves.

Matthew 13:44 (NIV) The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
44"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

Is there anything more important than hearing from God? Is not one word from the Throne of Heaven worth everything we own? Shouldn't hearing from God be something we take seriously and seek out? The bible says that if we seek we will find, and I believe to the degree that we seek we will find. I am passionate about hearing from God. My entire life is an exercise in waiting for and expecting and seeking a word from God. There is nothing more important in my life than experiencing the Lord. If we approach hearing from God through dreams and visions with ambivalence, or without faith, we will get exactly what we invest - nothing. We will reap exactly what we sow - nothing. But if we approach dreams from Him with anticipation, and great expectation toward hearing from Him, we will reap a harvest of our faith and expectation. To the degree that we seek, believe that we will receive, and invest ourselves, will be to the same degree that we receive from the Throne of Heaven.

Psalm 119:2
2 Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. NIV

Ask yourself, which do you think will please God more: A person who handled every dream with serious respect, and went to bed every night with anticipation, enthusiasm and hope that they may receive a message from God? Or do you think that He would be more pleased by the doubting Thomas, who has little regard for all that "dream interpretation business", in spite of published bible history and knowledge that the most common biblical form of communication between God and man is, and has always been, through dreams?

Dream Journal

Record your dreams while they are fresh. If possible, keep a journal close by your bed and jot down at least the high points as soon as you wake up. It is often the case that dreams fade very quickly after waking so catch them before they go. It is also helpful to use a journal to better track reoccurring dreams.

A dream from God usually breaks this rule. Supernatural dreams are often more vibrant and indelible and if you have one like that you won't normally forget it even over time. There is a dream I had more than thirty years ago and I still remember every detail.

If there are others in your household, share dreams with each other. When I was a child we used to all tell our dreams at the breakfast table. It helps awareness and aids memory.

-You no longer have to remain in the dark as in Genesis 40:8, “We both had dreams last night, but there is no one here to tell us what they mean. Interpreting dreams is God’s business said Joseph, tell me what you saw.”

Prayer

The one who knows the exact interpretation of every single one of your dreams is God. Ask him! Believe me, he wants you to know and understand. Pray before you go to bed that God will speak to you in the nighttime and when you awake that you will understand how he did.

When you have a puzzling dream, submit it to God and ask him to make known the meaning. Then let your mind relax about it and wait. It may come quickly or over a few days or weeks.

Recently I had a dream with an unusual subject matter - the entire Supreme Court in my back yard - and as I was waking up I said to myself; "I wonder why I dreamed that; what does it mean God?" Almost immediately, a sentence came into my mind that interpreted the dream in a very simple way. Later that day I shared the dream with a few other people without telling them what I got for myself. They had more elaborate interpretations but none of them rang true to me. I feel pretty sure that one sentence was God's take on my dream.

Emotions

The emotions you feel in your dreams are extremely important in interpreting them. It may be even more important than the dream sequence itself. Pay close attention to every feeling and emotion played out in each dream.

I once had a dream in which I was in a war. I woke up and felt that I truly understood the horrors that each soldier must feel. My emotions were crucial in understanding the interpretation of my dream.

Now, may you be blessed in your sleep and in your dreams. May God speak to your heart through the nighttime hours and draw you ever closer to himself. Sweet dreams!
