Biblical References About Dreams

Dreams Visions and Pictures
-Did you know that 1/3rd of the Bible relates to visions or dreams? Important people who dreamed were Abraham, Joseph, Daniel, Ezekiel, Joseph (Jesus') father, Mary (Jesus') Mother, Paul, Cornelius and others.

-God has always talked to His children in dreams. Our culture has lost the significance and value of visions and dreams.

-Did you know that in scripture, dreams or visions are mentioned 224 times?

-Did you know that the first 2 chapters of Matthew contain 5 recorded dreams that gave valuable warnings or advice?

-Actually God’s own Son was revealed in a dream.


- Gen 40:6-8 And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they [were] sad.

And he asked Pharaoh's officers that [were] with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye [so] sadly to day? And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and [there is] no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, [Do] not interpretations [belong] to God? tell me [them], I pray you.

-Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 both say, “I will pour out my rains again, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. In those days, I will pour out my Spirit on servants, men and women alike.” You can expect to hear from God.

-Matthew 7:7 tells us to, “Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for, keep looking and you will find, keep knocking and the door will be opened.” You can ask and receive night messages from the Most High God.

-God used to talk to man consistently in dreams.

-God speaks in a variety of ways, dreams are just one of them. Dreams from God are a whole new language.

-God gives us dreams to help us solve our problems, to tell us things we didn’t know, to show His love and tender care to us, to help us along our way and to entertain or show His love to us! And, best of all, this is available to all of us!

-You’re hearing from God and dreams help you get in touch with Him and make a God-connection.

-Our thoughts, prayers and dreams are tightly interwoven.

-God often sends dreams when we’re struggling with a problem.

-1/3 of your life is spent sleeping – usually without significance – unless you give it significance.

-Dreams can tell you more about yourself than any therapist, book, friend or relative.

-1 Kings 3:5 says “That night the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and God said, 'What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you.'” Ask the Father questions and He is able to give you answers in your dreams. We should not depend upon dreams solely for our answers. First and foremost, always depend upon the Word of God for answers.

-Job 33:14-18 says, “But God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their bed. He whispers in their ear and terrifies them with His warning. He causes them to change their minds; He keeps them from pride. He keeps them from the grave, from crossing over the river of death.”

-Proverbs 25:2 says, “It is God’s privilege to conceal things and the king’s privilege to discover them.” You can know more about yourself and God by paying attention to your dreams.

-Ecclesiastes 5:3 tells us, “Just as being too busy gives you nightmares, being a fool makes you a blabber mouth.” When we slow down and give value to our dreams, we can begin to understand what God is saying to us.

-Jeremiah 33:3 says, “Ask me and I will tell you some remarkable secrets about what is going to happen here.” Ask, seek and knock, God is waiting to reveal himself to you and tell you the things He wants you to know.

-Daniel 1:17 tells us, “God gave these four young men an unusual aptitude for learning literature and science of the time. And God gave Daniel special ability in understanding the meaning of visions and dreams.” If God didn’t intent to talk to people in dreams, He wouldn’t have given them to us nor would He have gifted people to interpret them.

-Daniel 7:1 says, “Earlier, during the first year of King Belshazzar’s reign, Daniel had a dream and saw visions as he lay on his bed. He wrote the dream down.” Why not begin to journal your dreams as well?

-John 16:24 tells us, “Ask, using My name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.” Ask the Father for dreams, write them down, He is talking to you!

-Don’t treat dreams like junk mail. You’re throwing away and discounting answers you’ve been asking for when needing guidance or encouragement.

-Remember, the key to dream interpretation is to always keep in mind that symbols may have different personal meanings for different people.

-Less important dreams occur during the first few hours of sleep. This is the time when our brains are “dumping” or getting rid of fatigue. Also, less important dreams are those that result from a recent conversation with a person, a book just read, a movie or TV show just watched, or after taking certain medications.

-You no longer have to remain in the dark as in Genesis 40:8, “We both had dreams last night, but there is no one here to tell us what they mean. Interpreting dreams is God’s business said Joseph, tell me what you saw.”
